Lyn, from Harrogate, UK, has suffered on and off with lower back pain for most of her adult life. She uses Pelvipro as part of a combined approach to treating the pain, and says it has transformed her life.
Here’s her story:
“I’m 62 and I’ve suffered with lower back pain for most of my adult life. The first incident was in 1979 and I’ve had it on and off since then. It was put right by various chiropractors but never properly diagnosed.
“The pain could be triggered by lots of things: lifting, twisting, being cold. I would put my back out easily when I was busy and not concentrating on when I was likely to do something to put it out.
“I’d have to drug myself up with pain killers, and cancel appointments. Sometimes the pain was so acute that I was unable to go to work because I literally couldn’t move.
“Holidays and going away were the bane of my life. My husband works in the travel industry and we travelled a lot. I was in constant pain during long flights because of the restricted movement, and it would take a few days for it to recover.
“I started seeing Chris Aldred for physiotherapy to relieve my lower back pain about two years ago. He was the first person to explain to me about the misalignment or asymmetry in my lower back. It all made perfect sense.
“At that time, Chris was developing Pelvipro, and I trialled it. As well as relieving my back pain, it also made a difference to other parts of my body where the asymmetry had also been causing pain. I started to use it in combination with regular visits to Chris, plus pilates two or three times a week. By the middle of last year, I was feeling the best I’d felt for 25 years.
“I’ve now had my own Pelvipro for about a month and use it as part of a holistic approach to treating my lower back pain. I still combine it with physiotherapy and pilates to build up the strength in my back and further relieve the pain. It is my key to a recovery programme because I need to get my pelvis back in alignment before I can do anything else. I don’t need to use the device every day but I recognise when my back’s gone and then I use it to restore the symmetry. It’s a life-saver.
“My Pelvipro has literally transformed my life. I can go weeks without being in pain because the instability is reducing through the combined approach of using the Pelvipro, having physio and going to pilates.
“It’s just a massive relief to know it’s there if I need it. When I go on holiday, I’ll put it in my suitcase. It’s like my crutch, it gives me freedom and confidence because I know that I can deal with my back pain myself, and it’s not going to ruin the holiday. Recently, I’d planned to drive north for the weekend and we were about to set off when my back went. So I just got out my Pelvipro and corrected the asymmetry in my back. Don’t get me wrong, my back was sore afterwards, but I was able to get in the car and have a day out.
“In the run-up to Christmas this year, instead of struggling with my back as I usually do, I can be confident of enjoying myself. There have been lots of Christmases where joining in family events has been difficult because I couldn’t sit comfortably. I don’t have that fear in my life any more. Pelvipro has been life-changing.”
